Service Contacts
When you e-file in Texas, you are required to serve copies of your filing on all parties involved in the case. Service contacts let you specify who receives electronic service.
What Is Electronic Service?
Electronic service (e-service) is the process of delivering a copy of your filed document to the other parties in a case via email. It replaces traditional methods like hand delivery or mail in most cases.
In Texas, when you file electronically, you can add service contacts who will automatically receive an email with the filed documents.
Who to Serve
You typically need to serve:
- opposing counsel in the case
- self-represented parties with email addresses
- any other parties required by court rules
Check the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure for the specific service requirements for your case type.
Adding Service Contacts
Each service contact requires:
- first and last name
- email address
- firm name (if applicable)
- phone number (optional)
In Honest Elf, you can save frequently used contacts to your firm's service contact list and reuse them across filings.
