FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Honest Elf?

Honest Elf is a Texas Electronic Filing Service Provider (EFSP). It lets individuals and law firms prepare, submit, and track court filings online through the Texas eFileTexas system. Honest Elf is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice.

How much does Honest Elf cost?

Honest Elf charges a flat $3 per filing submission. Court filing fees, which are set by the court, are additional. You see an itemized quote of the full amount before you submit — there are no subscriptions or hidden charges.

How do I file a document?

Create a free account, then start a filing. The filing wizard walks you through choosing the court, case type, and filing codes step by step. You upload your completed documents as PDFs, review the itemized fee quote, and submit. The filing goes to the court clerk for review.

Does Honest Elf write or generate documents for me?

No. You upload your own completed documents as PDFs. Honest Elf validates the filing details the court requires — court, case type, filing codes, parties, and fees — so your submission is less likely to be rejected.

How do I pay?

Payment accounts are set up once in your firm settings and charged through the court's secure payment system when you file. Credit cards are supported; availability of eCheck depends on the court.

How long does the court take to review a filing?

After you submit, a court clerk reviews the filing. Most reviews complete within a few business days, but timing varies by court and workload. You can track the status in Honest Elf and are notified when the clerk accepts or rejects the filing.

What happens if my filing is rejected?

The clerk's rejection reason is shown in Honest Elf. You can correct the problem and resubmit the filing to the court.

Which courts can I file into?

Texas courts that participate in the statewide eFileTexas system, including district, county, justice (small claims and eviction), and probate courts.

Can I file into an existing case?

Yes. Search for the case by case number in the court's records, then file motions, responses, and other documents into it.

What is e-service / a service contact?

E-service delivers copies of your filing electronically to the other parties' service contacts when you file. You can manage your firm's service contacts and attach them to cases in Honest Elf.

Can AI agents use Honest Elf?

Yes. Honest Elf provides an MCP server so AI agents such as Claude can search courts and cases, prepare filings, get fee quotes, and submit with explicit user approval. See the /agents page for details.

How do I reach a human?

Use the contact form on the /support page, or ask the support chat to escalate — either way the support team receives your message by email and replies to you.
